Last Week Samsung launched their latest Smartphone the Galaxy S III. This is a big screen phone boasting several new functions, will they be enough to win the Android battle, let alone the battle with Apple?
The screen is a 4.8" HD super AMOLED (1280x720) and the Operating System is Android Ice Cream Sandwich, it comes in two colours Pebble Blue and Marble White. The phone is 8.6mm thick and weighs in at 133g.
Here are some of the more interesting new features:-
S Voice, an app similar to Siri on the iPhone that responds to certain commands eg. "turn of alarm" "Answer Phone" etc.
Social Tag, Allows you to link a face in your photo album with that persons social media stream! this would have to be extremely accurate to be of any use.
Direct Call, If you are messaging someone, lift the phone to your ear and it will ring them.
Smart Stay, The Galaxy S III automatically recognizes that you are looking at the phone, whether reading or browsing and adjusts the brightness accordingly.
Pop up play, Lets you continue watching a video whilst multitasking like writing an email or texting. I can't really see this function being used I would think the pause button might be a better option.
Processor: 1.4GHz Quad Core Exynos
Camera: 8MP, With Auto Focus and Flash. Burst Mode for best picture choice.
Storage: 16, 32 or 64GB internal, MicroSD expandable to 64GB
Connectivity: WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth, NFC, S Beam (for bumping with other Android phones). DNLA, 4G LTE.
Other than the bigger screen I don't see anything outstanding here. The screen size and resolution seems to be the main focus for new devices at the moment, although I don't see the point of sacrificing the usability/portability of a smartphone when you have tablet devices available.
