The Sony Playstation Vita (Next Generation Portable) was due for release later this year and pre order prices have been set at $249 for the WiFi and $299 for the 3G. It is now being reported that the device will not arrive until the beginning of 2012. So the Christmas rush has been missed which might please some parents of children eager to get one as it’s not cheap.
The device will come in WiFi only and 3G versions and so far has had quite good reviews in terms of the gameplay, screen graphics and the ergonomic feel of the device. Design wise I think it could have been a bit more adventurous. The Sony PSP was quite comfortable to use and it appears Sony have stuck with that basic design and concentrated more on the Gameplay controls and input points, than the portability.
With the growing number of mobiles and tablets providing a rich gaming experience (even Sony with the forthcoming Tablet S) I wonder if the market has a big enough audience for these “Next Generation Portables”.
