As was well reported not long ago hackers obtained account information from the Sony Playstation and Entertainment network causing the network to shutdown. There has reportedly been another attack on the network using login and password combinations.
The Sony Tablet “S” is now in the shops, could this Android Tablet be a rival for the iPad? I like the design of this product and it has unusual hardware under the hood as well as an unusual look.
At least Sony have tried to be a bit different with the design and it will probably be one of those love it or hate it shapes.
At IFA in Berlin Sony announced a number of new devices one being the Sony Walkman Mobile Entertainment Player. The device is still being developed but will be worth examining when its finally released.
The Sony Playstation Vita (Next Generation Portable) was due for release later this year and pre order prices have been set at $249 for the WiFi and $299 for the 3G. It is now being reported that the device will not arrive until the beginning of 2012. So the Christmas rush has been missed which might please some parents of children eager to get one as it’s not cheap.
Augmented Reality is cropping up all over the place at the moment. Sony have just released an Augmented Reality application to help you position your television correctly on the wall. Opinion is divided on what constitutes the best viewing distance for large scale televisions. The TV size guide is an online application hosted at sony.co.uk.

This month Sony has introduced the ‘Worlds First’ Digital Binoculars with HD recording. I assume this will appeal to the bird watchers of this world and no doubt the military and covert operations set!
Two models have been introduced, they are the DEV-5 and the DEV-3. They are not cheap as you would expect but if they can produce what has been claimed then they may be considered a good buy.
Sony Ericsson has announced its first ever Walkman brand smartphone running Google Android 2.1 Eclair update in Indonesia. Sporting 3-inch capacitive touchscreen display, the new Sony Ericsson W8 walkman smartphone looks very similar to Xperia X8. There’s no word on the pricing and this phone will be available in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Malayasia, Phillipines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam from Q2 2011 in Azure Blue, Metallic Red and Iconic Orange.
New Sony Ericsson W8 has a 3-inch capacitive HVGA (320×480) display and houses 600Mhz processor under the hood. With 128MB memory on board, this handset comes with Android 2.1 Eclair running on it and I doubt if it will get Froyo richness. Kindly forget about the phone getting Gingerbread. Sony Ericsson has layered the Timescape UI on the top of Android.
As has been expected; sooner or later Sony Ericsson will bring its Playstation brand into the mobile phone industry. Although the Xperia PLAY isn’t exactly a combination of PSP and smartphone, but still, the device makes gaming on a smartphone more convenient. Once upon a time, Nokia tried and failed miserably with the N-Gage and now eight years later we’ve got the PLAY, a proper gaming phone. It is nothing more than an Android smartphone that is optimized for dedicated gamers, with an integrated physical gamepad, instead of a QWERTY keyboard. The concept is so simple, it may make you wonder why nobody has thought about it earlier.
